Imphal, August 02, 2026: The NSS Cell, Manipur University, Canchipur, in collaboration with the State NSS Cell, Government of Manipur, on Sunday organised the State-level programme for the launch of “Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat – Sankalp Abhiyan” at the Auditorium of Manipur University.
The programme was organised under the aegis of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. It coincided with the live telecast of the virtual interaction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with youth across the country for the nationwide launch of the campaign.
Chief Minister of Manipur Shri Yumnam Khemchand Singh attended the programme as Chief Guest. Prof. R.K. Hemakumar Singh, Vice-Chancellor (In-Charge), Manipur University, presided over the function. Prof. M. Premjit Singh, Registrar, Manipur University, attended as Guest of Honour, while Prof. Laishram Santosh Singh, Programme Coordinator, NSS Cell, Manipur University, also attended the programme along with other dignitaries.
The programme commenced with the ceremonial watering of a plant by the dignitaries, symbolising growth, hope and a sustainable future. It was followed by the rendition of the NSS Song and the State Song of Manipur, creating an atmosphere of patriotism, discipline and collective commitment.
Delivering the Welcome Address, Prof. M. Premjit Singh welcomed the dignitaries, NSS volunteers, students and participants. He highlighted the significance of the “Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat – Sankalp Abhiyan” and emphasised the vital role of youth in building a healthy, drug-free and developed India.
A special Manipuri cultural dance performance was presented by students, showcasing the cultural heritage of Manipur and adding a meaningful local dimension to the national campaign. Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Y. Khemchand Singh said the creation of a drug-free society is the collective responsibility of every citizen. He called upon young people to stay away from drugs and actively contribute towards protecting the future of Manipur. The Chief Minister said the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047 can be realised only through a healthy, disciplined and responsible youth population. He urged the participants to work together in fulfilling the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a developed India. Following his address, the Chief Minister administered the “Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat – Sankalp Abhiyan” pledge, which was solemnly taken by all participants present at the programme.
Thereafter, the participants witnessed the live virtual interaction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who officially launched the “Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat – Sankalp Abhiyan” and addressed youth across the country.
During his address, the Prime Minister emphasised the need to eradicate drug abuse, empower young people and encourage their active participation in nation-building. He said a developed India by 2047 would require youth who are physically healthy, mentally strong and free from destructive habits.
Following the virtual interaction, Prof. R.K. Hemakumar Singh, Vice-Chancellor (In-Charge) of Manipur University, delivered the Presidential Address. He appreciated the initiative of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and encouraged NSS volunteers to become ambassadors of the anti-drug movement.
He said NSS volunteers should spread awareness among communities and inspire young people to adopt healthy lifestyles, discipline and social responsibility. The cultural segment continued with a vibrant presentation of the traditional Lai Haraoba Dance by NSS volunteers, reflecting the rich cultural traditions of Manipur and adding colour to the event.
The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks proposed by Prof. Laishram Santosh Singh, Programme Coordinator, NSS Cell, Manipur University. He expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister, the Vice-Chancellor, the Registrar, invited guests, officials, NSS Programme Officers, volunteers, performers, media personnel and all those who contributed to the successful organisation of the programme.
He also thanked the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, and the State NSS Cell, Government of Manipur, for providing the opportunity to organise the programme. Around 1,100 NSS volunteers and youth participants from various institutions took part in the programme, reflecting strong participation in the national campaign against substance abuse. At the outset, NSS volunteers accorded a traditional welcome to the dignitaries by presenting Lengyan Phee, flower bouquets and mementoes as tokens of respect and appreciation. The event concluded with a renewed commitment among NSS volunteers and youth participants to support the campaign and actively contribute towards building a drug-free, healthy and developed India.
