Yoga

Manipur University was one of the six central universities selected to start yoga department by the committee on yoga education in Universities, Ministry of Human Resources and Development, Govt. of India. Following this, the Academic Council of Manipur University passed a resolution on 18th April 2017 to open Yoga Department. At present the department is running one year Post Graduate Diploma in Yoga Science in which 43 students are enrolled. The department aims to impart not only academic understanding about yoga but also ways to inculcate the principles of yoga in daily life. This can be achieved by combining deep understanding about the traditional texts of yoga and scientific studies using modern technology. Hence one of the main thrust areas of the department is to conduct scientific studies in the field of yoga, so that the ancient spiritual tradition can be applied to the present day society. This will ultimately contribute in creating a healthy and peaceful society. Considering the interest of the student community and the society the department is planning to start M.Sc. yoga programme in the next academic session.
