The Department of Sociology

The Department of Sociology was established in the year 2012, two-year Master degree programme and PhD programme was started from the academic session 2013-14, presently it has an intake capacity of forty students per semester. Of late, department has also introduced Ph.D. programme and many scholars are pursuing their doctoral degrees. With a wide spectrum of courses spread over a period of four semesters M.A. Programme in Sociology aims at imparting core sociological concepts, theory, and methods to students to strengthen their sociological imagination and make them socially aware and socio-politically active citizens who can comprehend the social climate and successfully tackle the current situation.

The Department has been organizing 'Occasional Sociological Lecture Series' on sociologically relevant issues and other interdisciplinary topics. Department is also holding 'Monthly Lecture Series' on current issues by collaborating with the Manipur Sociological Society. Faculty members are committed to organize national seminars/conferences, and undertake projects, pilot studies, etc. which will give impetus to department's vision of becoming the flagship centre of fundamental as well as policy research in social sciences.
