DEPARTMENT PROFILE
The Department of Psychology was established in the year 2019 as a new addition to the existing PG Departments of Manipur University. This Department is under the School of Human and Environmental Sciences of the University. Currently the Department offers PG Programme (MA/ MSc Psychology) of two years having four semesters. At present the intake capacity of the course is 70 students.
The Department has introduced its PhD (Research) Programme from the year 2022. Subsequently, the Department extended its academic offerings with the opening of a One-Year PG Diploma in Guidance and Counselling in the year 2024.
In addition to this academic endeavour, the Department in collaboration with the Health Centre, Manipur University, has opened a Psychological Counselling Cell on 10th October, 2025 (World Mental Health Day) to address the Mental Health issues of the University community in general and students in particular.
OBJECTIVE
The Department has clear objective of promoting scientific understanding of human behavior; nurturing youth into becoming ethically and culturally sensitive professionals; and contributing to the mental health and well-being of individuals and communities at large.
It also aims at promoting training in psychological theory, research and practice; infusing critical thinking, scientific inquiry and innovation among students; bringing awareness about importance of mental health and improving well-being in the communities through sensitization and outreach programs.
