Prof. Naorem Lokendra Singh, the 11th Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University, assumed the charge of the Vice-Chancellor on 23rd July, 2021. He held several other administrative leadership positions till the time he serves as the chief executive head of the university. In 2007, he was appointed as the first Registrar of Manipur University after the university was granted the status of a Central University in 2005.
With his extensive experience in academic and administration, he led significant developments in the university. He has been instrumental in successful implementation of the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020) at undergraduate level and postgraduate level from the academic year 2021-2022 in Manipur University. Under his leadership, various academic collaborations with reputed international, national and regional institutions have been undertaken, focusing on sustainability, empowerment, efficiency and employability, fostering research collaborations.
Prof. N. Lokendra Singh is an alumnus of Delhi University and Jawaharlal Nehru University -India’s Institutions of Eminence (IoE). He is a graduate in BA History (Honours) from St. Stephens’ College and received his Master’s Degree from Centre for Historical Studies, JNU. He completed his M.Phil. from Delhi University and later earned his doctoral degree in Modern Indian History from Manipur University.
In 2024, Prof. N. Lokendra Singh attended Korea Foundation sponsored Distinguished Visitor Programme and visited 6 Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Seoul, South Korea. At present, Prof. N. Lokendra Singh is a member of National Medical Council and Executive Member of UGC-INFLIBNET Committee, in addition to membership of various national and regional academic and professional bodies. He has successfully guided 14 Ph.D. scholars in History.
Recent Significant Achievements :
Delivered Lecture on Academic Bank of Credit, NCrF & APAAR at National Summit for Institutional Leaders (NSIL-2024) at University of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh on 18th February 2024.
Attended a Session as a Chairperson for “Transforming our Campuses as Sustainable & Vibrant' during NSIL-2025 on 1st March 2025 at the Doon University Campus in Dehradun.
