Manipur University 29/08/2025: The Department of Physical Education and Sports Science (PESS), Manipur University, Canchipur, successfully organized the “Nationwide Celebration of Sports, Spirit & Unity on National Sports Day” on 29th August 2025 at Dr. Kamal Indoor Stadium, Manipur University, from 10:00 a.m. onwards.
The event was held in collaboration with the Fit India Campaign Committee (FICC), Fit India Club (FIC), and the National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell, Manipur University, under the national theme “Ek Ghanta Khel Ke Maidaan Mein!”. It was organized under the aegis of the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, and the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India.
The programme was graced by distinguished dignitaries:
Prof. N. Lokendra Singh, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Manipur University – Chief Guest
Prof. Ch. Ibohal Singh, Chairman, FICC & FIC and Dean of Students’ Welfare, MU – Special Guest
Dr. Ch. Pradip Singh, Assistant Director of Sports, MU – Guest of Honour
Prof. L. Thambal Singh, Head, Department of PESS – President of the Function
The celebration began with a floral tribute to Major Dhyan Chand, the legendary hockey player, led by the dignitaries, faculty members, research scholars, and students.
In his welcome address, Dr. Laishram Santosh Singh, Programme Coordinator, NSS Cell & FICC/FIC, emphasized the vital role of youth participation in sports for building a healthy and disciplined society.
Delivering the keynote address, Prof. M. Nodiyachand Singh underlined the importance of celebrating sports in a youthful nation like India, highlighting Manipur’s legacy of producing renowned sportspersons who inspire future generations.
The Chief Guest, Prof. N. Lokendra Singh, spoke on the transformative power of sports in channelizing youthful energy towards unity and peace. He linked the occasion to the broader vision of the Fit India Movement and Viksit Bharat 2047.
Prof. Ch. Ibohal Singh stressed the role of sports in holistic development, while Dr. Ch. Pradip Singh acknowledged Manipur’s consistent contributions at national and international sporting arenas. Prof. L. Thambal Singh, presiding over the function, emphasized the unifying and disciplinary essence of sports.
The event concluded with a voluntary blood donation camp, where faculty members, NSS volunteers, and students enthusiastically participated, donating 30 units of blood as a gesture of service and solidarity.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. L. Pungding, Department of PESS, marking the celebration as a resounding success that echoed the spirit of sportsmanship, unity, and national pride on National Sports Day 2025.
