Manipur University, May 15, 2026: The Student Council of the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), Manipur Institute of Technology (MIT), Manipur University, celebrated National Technology Day 2026 on 15th May 2026 at the MIT Campus under the theme “Responsible Innovation for Inclusive Growth.” The programme aimed to promote awareness about the role of technology and innovation in building an inclusive and sustainable society.

The event was graced by Prof. N. Basanta Singh, Dean, School of Engineering, Manipur University, as the Chief Guest; Prof. Th. Suresh Singh, Principal, Manipur Institute of Technology, as the Guest of Honour; and Dr. Th. Somchand Singh, President, Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), MIT, as the President of the function.

The programme commenced with a welcome and keynote address by Ms. Olevia Chingakham, Innovation Coordinator, Student Council, IIC, MIT, who highlighted the importance of responsible technological advancement and the active participation of students in innovation-driven initiatives.

In his address, Chief Guest Prof. N. Basanta Singh emphasized the importance of responsible and sustainable technological innovation for national development. He encouraged students to utilize technology to address societal challenges and contribute towards nation-building.

Prof. Th. Suresh Singh, Principal, MIT, appreciated the initiative of the Student Council and motivated students to actively engage in innovation, research, and technology-based learning activities. Dr. Th. Somchand Singh, President of the function, highlighted the significance of inclusive growth through innovation and urged students to develop creativity, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

As part of the celebration, a quiz competition on the theme “Technology” was organized, witnessing enthusiastic participation from students. The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Motilal Sanjenbam, Convener, Student Council, IIC, MIT, followed by light refreshments.

The celebration reflected MIT’s continued commitment towards fostering innovation, technological awareness, and academic excellence among students and young innovators.
