Imphal, 15 September 2026: The Manipur Institute of Technology (MIT), Manipur University, in collaboration with the Institution’s Innovation Council, Manipur Institute of Technology (IIC-MIT), organised National Engineers’ Day 2026 on 15 September 2026 at 3:00 PM at the MIT, Manipur University Campus.
The programme was organised to commemorate National Engineers’ Day, observed every year on 15th September in honour of the birth anniversary of the legendary Indian engineer and statesman Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya. The theme of this year’s celebration was: “Smart Engineering for a Sustainable Future through Innovation and Digitalization” The programme brought together faculty members, students and members of the institute to celebrate the contributions of engineers to nation-building and to highlight the importance of innovation, digital technologies and sustainable engineering solutions in addressing emerging societal challenges.
Prof. Basanta Singh, Dean, School of Engineering, Manipur University, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while Prof. Th. Suresh Singh, Principal, Manipur Institute of Technology, presided over the function as the President.
In his address, the Chief Guest highlighted the evolving role of engineers in transforming society through technological innovation, sustainable practices and interdisciplinary approaches. He emphasised the need for engineering students to develop not only strong technical competencies but also creativity, problem-solving abilities and an innovation-oriented mindset. Presiding over the function, Prof. Th. Suresh Singh, Principal, MIT, emphasised the responsibility of engineering institutions in preparing students to address contemporary challenges through research, innovation and the effective application of emerging technologies. He also encouraged students to actively participate in innovation and entrepreneurial activities and contribute towards the technological development of the region and the nation. The celebration also focused on the significance of digitalisation, smart technologies and sustainable engineering in building a resilient and environmentally responsible future. The programme provided an opportunity for students and faculty members to reflect upon the legacy of Sir M. Visvesvaraya and the continuing relevance of engineering excellence in nation-building. The event concluded with a renewed commitment from Manipur Institute of Technology, Manipur University, to promote innovation, research, digital transformation and sustainable engineering practices among its students and faculty, in keeping with the vision of creating engineers capable of contributing meaningfully to society and the nation.
