Manipur Univeristy, 9th December 2025: The Manipur Institute of Technology (MIT), Manipur University, inaugurated the Three-Day Northeast India International Conference on Innovation in Science and Technology today. The conference, scheduled from December 9–11, 2025, is being held at the Court Hall, Vice-Chancellor’s Secretariat, Manipur University.
The inaugural session was graced by Prof. N. Lokendra Singh, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Manipur University, as the Chief Guest. Prof. N. Basanta Singh, Dean, School of Engineering, MU; Prof. N.C. Shivaprakash (Retd.), IISc Bengaluru; and Prof. R.K. Hemokumar Singh, Former Dean, School of Engineering, MU, attended as Guests of Honour. The function was presided over by Prof. Th. Suresh Singh, Principal, MIT.
In his inaugural address, Vice-Chancellor Prof. N. Lokendra Singh underscored Northeast India’s accelerating emergence as a technological hub. He highlighted the significance of academic collaboration, interdisciplinary research, and innovation-driven development, reaffirming Manipur University’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with industry and academic institutions.
Delivering the keynote lecture, Prof. N.C. Shivaprakash emphasized the vital role of inter-institutional collaboration in fostering innovation. He noted that the conference provides a platform for knowledge-sharing and research dissemination, especially in emerging domains such as Artificial Intelligence (AI). Drawing from his four decades of academic experience, he elaborated on global scientific trends and technological advancements, touching upon applications in infrastructure, wireless Internet, healthcare, biotechnology, aerospace, nanotechnology, renewable energy, and rural development.
Prof. N. Basanta Singh highlighted the primary objective of the conference—to encourage a spirit of discovery and explore AI-enabled solutions tailored to the unique challenges of Northeast India. He expressed deep appreciation to the North Eastern Council (NEC), Shillong, for sponsoring the event.
In his presidential remarks, Prof. Th. Suresh Singh thanked NEC for its support and announced that the conference received 125 research paper submissions across eight technical sessions. These sessions will address themes such as disaster-resilient infrastructure, smart city solutions, green energy innovations, AI applications, and other cutting-edge engineering domains.
The programme began with a welcome address by Dr. K. Rambha Devi, Convenor of the conference. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Rajeev Rajkumar, Co-Convenor.
Sponsored by the North Eastern Council, Shillong, the conference aims to promote advanced research, strengthen academia–industry linkages, and encourage sustainable, technology-driven solutions addressing the specific needs of Northeast India.
