Manipur University, 18 July 2026: Manipur University has earned international recognition after Loitongbam Thoithoi Singh, a Ph.D. scholar in the Department of Chemistry, received the Best Oral Presentation Award at the 36th International Symposium on Chirality (Chirality 2026), held in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, from 14 to 17 July 2026.
Loitongbam Thoithoi Singh is pursuing his doctoral research under the supervision of Dr. Raju Laishram, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, Manipur University. He received the award for his presentation entitled “Circularly Polarized Luminescence Active Low Molecular Weight Lanthanide Gels: Tunable Emission Including White Light.”The research focuses on the development of advanced chiral gels based on luminescent lanthanide materials with tunable emission properties, including white-light generation. The findings demonstrate significant potential for applications in next-generation photonic, optical and luminescent materials.
The achievement reflects the growing contribution of Manipur University to frontier research in chemistry and highlights the capabilities of its young researchers in presenting innovative scientific work on international platforms.
The Department of Chemistry congratulated Loitongbam Thoithoi Singh and his research supervisor, Dr. Raju Laishram, on the prestigious recognition. The Department stated that the award brings pride to the University and strengthens its commitment to high-quality research, innovation and global scientific engagement.
The Department gratefully acknowledged the financial support provided by Manipur University, the Anusandhan National Research Foundation–Start-up Research Grant, ANRF-PAIR-B under the IISER Group, and the Department of Science and Technology–Fund for Improvement of S&T Infrastructure for supporting the research. It also acknowledged the travel assistance provided through the ANRF International Travel Support scheme, which enabled Loitongbam Thoithoi Singh to participate in and present his research at the international symposium.
The Department of Chemistry, Manipur University, remains committed to promoting excellence in scientific research, encouraging interdisciplinary innovation and creating opportunities for young researchers to contribute to cutting-edge science at the national and international levels.
