Manipur University, Canchipur, Imphal, June 4, 2026: As part of the observance of World Environment Day 2026, the Department of Environmental Science and the National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell, Manipur University, jointly organized a Mass Cleanliness Drive and “No to Single-Use Plastic” Campaign under the theme “Mission LiFE: Lifestyle for Environment” on 4th June 2026 at the Traffic Point, Manipur University, Canchipur.
The programme was conducted under the supervision of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, with the objective of promoting environmental responsibility and encouraging sustainable lifestyles among students and the community.
The campaign was led by Prof. Laishram Santosh Singh, Programme Coordinator, NSS Cell, Manipur University, and Prof. R. S. Khoiyangbam, Head, Department of Environmental Science. The programme received active support from NSS Programme Officers Dr. H. Suraj Singh, Dr. Kh. Herachandra Singh, Dr. T. Deepamanjuri Devi, and Dr. Dalip Singh, along with faculty members of the Department of Environmental Science, including Dr. Konthoujam Khelchandra Singh, Dr. Wazir Alam, Dr. Maibam Dhanaraj Meitei, Dr. Chingakham Raghumani Singh, and Dr. Binota Thokchom.
Around 200 NSS volunteers, students, and faculty members participated enthusiastically in the programme, demonstrating their commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable living.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Laishram Santosh Singh emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness and reducing the use of single-use plastics. He urged participants to support the national campaign “One Nation, One Mission: End Plastic Pollution” under the broader framework of Mission LiFE: Lifestyle for Environment.
As part of the programme, a mass awareness rally was organized across the university campus. Participants carried placards and raised slogans promoting environmental protection, waste reduction, and plastic-free living. The rally was followed by a cleanliness drive in various parts of the campus, reinforcing the message of a clean, green, and sustainable environment.
In his presidential address, Prof. R. S. Khoiyangbam appreciated the active participation of the volunteers and encouraged them to adopt environmentally responsible practices in their daily lives. He highlighted the importance of individual and collective efforts in building a sustainable future.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks and light refreshments. The campaign successfully promoted environmental awareness, community participation, and sustainable action towards achieving a cleaner, greener, and plastic-free future.
