Manipur University, 13 August 2025 – The National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell of Manipur University, Canchipur, successfully observed the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan on 13 August 2025 at 11:30 a.m. The programme, held at the Department of Anthropology, was themed “Together for a Drug-Free India” and organized under the aegis of the Ministry of Higher Education, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, and the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India.
The event was graced by distinguished dignitaries, including Dr. Laishram Santosh Singh, Programme Coordinator, NSS Cell; Dr. H. Suraj Singh, NSS Programme Officer; Dr. T. Deepamanjuri Devi, NSS Programme Officer; Dr. Kh. Herachandra Singh, NSS Programme Officer; and Dr. Dalip Singh, NSS Programme Officer, who formed the presidium of the function.
In her welcome address, Dr. T. Deepamanjuri Devi emphasized the urgent need for preventive education, proactive youth engagement, and active campus participation to nurture a healthy, drug-free learning environment.
Dr. Dalip Singh, serving as the resource person, delivered an insightful session on the importance of community-led initiatives in preventing substance abuse. He highlighted that the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan focuses on mass awareness through the participation of youth, women, and community organizations, with special emphasis on higher educational institutions and vulnerable groups to ensure early intervention.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Laishram Santosh Singh reiterated the mission of building a drug-free India through collective action and institutional commitment. He envisioned the Abhiyan as a nationwide movement fostering a healthier and more resilient society.
Dr. Kh. Herachandra Singh further stressed that the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, operational in all districts of the country, is a significant mass movement aimed at eradicating drug abuse and promoting holistic well-being.
A mass pledge against drug use was administered by Dr. Dalip Singh, with wholehearted participation from all attendees, symbolizing their commitment to the cause.
In his concluding remarks and Vote of Thanks, Dr. H. Suraj Singh reaffirmed the University’s steadfast dedication to cultivating a clean, safe, and drug-free campus, while extending gratitude to all dignitaries, participants, and stakeholders for their active support in making the event a resounding success.
