Imphal, September 24, 2026: Manipur University observed the 56th MY Bharat NSS Foundation Day 2026 with a Mega Blood Donation Camp at its Auditorium today. Organised under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan 2026, the camp saw volunteers donate blood, bringing the NSS spirit of service into practice.
The programme was jointly organised by the MY Bharat NSS Cell, Manipur University; the State NSS Cell, Manipur; MY Bharat, Imphal West District; the State Blood Transfusion Council (SBTC), Manipur; and the Health Centre, Manipur University, under the aegis of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. The camp was also held in connection with the observance of National Voluntary Blood Donation Day 2026, carrying the message, “One Drop of Humanity. Give Blood. Save Lives.”
Shri Karam Shyam Singh, MLA, Langthabal Assembly Constituency, attended as Chief Guest, while Prof. R.K. Hemakumar Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University, presided over the function. Shri Naorem Praveen Singh, Secretary, Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of Manipur, attended as Special Guest, and Dr. L. Dayalaxmi, Director, SBTC, Manipur, was the Guest of Honour.
Delivering the welcome address, Prof. Laishram Santosh Singh, Programme Coordinator, NSS Cell, Manipur University, welcomed the dignitaries, blood-bank teams, Programme Officers, volunteers and media representatives on behalf of the organising committee. He outlined the Foundation Day observance and acknowledged the collaborating organisations.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Karam Shyam Singh urged students to regard blood donation not merely as an NSS activity but as a personal responsibility towards saving lives and serving society. He said the programme would be meaningful if participants recognised the value of their contribution to another person’s life. Emphasising public cooperation and the importance of nurturing a spirit of service from an early age, he encouraged young people to develop civic sense and contribute to their community’s well-being.
In his presidential address, Prof. R.K. Hemakumar Singh thanked the organisers, NSS Programme Officers and participating students for coming together for the camp. Referring to Viksit Bharat 2047, he said everyone had a responsibility to contribute towards making India a developed nation, with young people and NSS volunteers playing an important role. He urged students to participate actively in activities that benefit society and carry the spirit of service beyond their schools and colleges. He also expressed hope that a larger camp could be organised the following year.
Shri Naorem Praveen Singh emphasised that service to society lies at the heart of NSS and MY Bharat. He encouraged young people to recognise and develop their potential, noting that a nation’s progress depends not merely on its population size but on the capabilities and contributions of its people. Citing South Korea’s development as an example, he urged participants to become responsible citizens and contribute to the goal of a developed India.
Dr. L. Dayalaxmi appealed to NSS volunteers to remain involved in voluntary blood donation beyond a single camp. She said the blood donation campaign placed particular emphasis on youth engagement. Explaining the distinction between voluntary and replacement donation, she stressed the importance of encouraging first-time donors to become regular voluntary donors. She also highlighted donor awareness and screening procedures, and encouraged eligible donors to approach blood centres without waiting for an organised camp.
Seven Programme Officers were selected for the MY Bharat NSS Best Programme Officer Award 2026: Dr. Mangsatabam Sumati Devi of Shree Shree Gourgobind Girls’ College; Okram Radheshyam Singh of Jiri College; John Britto A of Don Bosco College (Autonomous); Kshetrimayum Biren Singh of Kakching Khunou College; Dr. Ngamthem Serbum Moyon of South East Manipur College; Dr. Laishram Landhoni Devi of Birmangol College; and Dr. Huidrom Suraj Singh of Manipur University.
The programme also included the felicitation of students who came forward voluntarily to donate blood, along with Prof. S. Sunil of the Department of Biochemistry, Manipur University, in recognition of their contribution to the camp. Ms. Paulina Monsang, Director, MY Bharat, Manipur, delivered the vote of thanks.
