Imphal, June 30, 2026: The Manipur University Health Centre successfully conducted the Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) Programme 2026 from 28th to 30th June 2026 at the Manipur University Health Centre and through house-to-house visits across the Manipur University campus. The programme was organized by the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Manipur, and implemented by the Manipur University Health Centre as part of the National Immunization Programme.
The immunization drive was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Lamabam Pinky Devi, Medical Officer-in-Charge, with RK Ashalata Devi serving as the Supervisor for Team No. 5. The programme aimed to ensure that every child below five years of age received the Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV), thereby contributing to the national mission of sustaining India's polio-free status.
The three-day campaign comprised booth-based vaccination at the Manipur University Health Centre on 28th June, followed by house-to-house visits on 29th and 30th June to identify and vaccinate children who had missed immunization on Booth Day. Parents and caregivers were encouraged to bring their children for vaccination, while field teams conducted follow-up visits to ensure complete coverage across the assigned areas.
During the campaign, 39 children received the Oral Polio Vaccine at the vaccination booth on the first day. An additional 4 children were immunized during house-to-house visits on 29th June, followed by 3 more children on 30th June, bringing the total number of children immunized to 46.
The campaign successfully achieved complete coverage of all eligible children identified within the assigned areas. The programme also strengthened community awareness regarding polio prevention and reinforced the importance of routine immunization. The organizers reported that community participation and cooperation were highly satisfactory, and no major operational difficulties were encountered during the implementation of the programme.
The successful completion of the Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization Programme 2026 reflects Manipur University's continued commitment to public health initiatives and its active contribution to protecting children against poliomyelitis while supporting the national objective of maintaining India's polio-free status.
