Imphal, August 1, 2026: Manipur University faculty member Dr. L. Santosh Singh has received the Best Oral Presentation Award at the Thailand National Sports University International Conference 2026, held from July 29 to 31, marking an important academic recognition for the University at an international platform.
Dr. Santosh Singh is a Professor in the Department of Physical Education and Sports Science and Programme Coordinator of the NSS Cell, Manipur University.
The award was conferred for his presentation titled “Enhancing Physiological Variables and Physical Performance of Football Players: Effect of High-Intensity Interval Training.” The international conference was organised by Thailand National Sports University in collaboration with the Thai Association for Health, Physical Education and Recreation and the Sports Science Society of Thailand.
It was held under the theme, “The Global Impact of Digital Transformation in Sports and Human Competency: Education, Research, Wellness, and Sustainability.” The recognition is significant as it reflects Manipur University’s continued academic engagement in sports science, physical education, health research and evidence-based approaches to athletic performance.
Dr. Santosh Singh’s presentation examined the effect of high-intensity interval training on physiological variables and physical performance of football players. The research is relevant to contemporary sports science, where systematic training methods, scientific assessment and performance-based interventions have become increasingly important in athlete development. The achievement also reinforces the value of interdisciplinary studies linking physical education, human physiology, sports training, wellness and performance enhancement. For Manipur University, the recognition is expected to encourage further research, innovation and international academic participation among its faculty members. It also places renewed attention on the importance of sports science in a state known for its strong sporting culture and contribution to national and international sports.
The award adds to the University’s efforts to strengthen academic excellence, research visibility and meaningful participation in global knowledge forums.
