Manipur University, July 22, 2026: The DBT-BUILDER Instrumentation Facility at Manipur University, Canchipur, organized a Laboratory Tour and Exposure Programme for B.Sc. 8th Semester students of Mayai Lambi College on Wednesday.
The academic initiative was conducted with financial support from the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India. The primary objective of the programme was to provide undergraduate students with vital, first-hand exposure to advanced research facilities and cutting-edge scientific instrumentation.
Hands-On Training and Expert Guidance: During the visit, the students were introduced to various sophisticated instruments utilized in biological and interdisciplinary research fields. Resident experts demonstrated the underlying principles and practical applications of the equipment. A strong emphasis was placed on: Laboratory safety protocols  and risk management, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)for high-end machinery & Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)required in modern research.
The participants actively engaged with scientists and technical staff. Through these interactions, the students gained valuable real-world insights into research methodologies, laboratory management, and emerging career opportunities across the broader scientific sector.

A Hub for Regional Research Excellence: The DBT-BUILDER Instrumentation Facility has steadily emerged as one of the region's premier hubs for advanced research training, particularly in the Biological Sciences. Over the past five years, the facility has successfully trained more than 950 participants. Its extensive training footprint includes: Faculty members pursuing professional development, Ph.D. scholars conducting advanced thesis work, Postgraduate and undergraduate students completing laboratory modules & Higher secondary studentsattending foundational exposure workshops.
Operational Leadership: The facility is systematically coordinated by Prof. G.A. Shantibala Devi, Prof. Ksh. Birla Singh, and Prof. Th. Binoy Singh from the university's core Departments of Zoology and Botany. The daily operations, instrument calibrations, and academic outreach programmes are managed by four dedicated project staff members who ensure the facility's sustained smooth functioning.
