Manipur University, 7th November 2025: In celebration of the 150th anniversary of India’s National Song “Vande Mataram”, composed by the eminent writer Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in 1875, the Department of Dance and Music, Manipur University, Canchipur, organised a Mass Singing of the full version of “Vande Mataram” on 7th November 2025 at 9:30 a.m.

The event was held in the presence of Prof. N. Lokendra Singh, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Manipur University; Prof. M. Premjit, Registrar, Manipur University; Dr. M. Thoiba Singh, Head, Department of Dance and Music; along with faculty members, students, and staff of the University. The programme coincided with the inaugural ceremony of the year-long national commemoration led by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, New Delhi.

The programme at Manipur University commenced with an inspiring address by Prof. N. Lokendra Singh, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, who highlighted the profound significance of “Vande Mataram” in India’s freedom movement and its enduring role in shaping the nation’s collective identity and patriotic spirit.

Following the address, the faculty, students, and staff of Manipur University participated in the Mass Singing with great enthusiasm and reverence, marking a memorable tribute to the timeless national song.

The Mass Singing of “Vande Mataram” at Manipur University was recorded and later uploaded on the campaign portal https://vandemataram150.in under the digital activation campaign “Karaoke with Vande Mataram.” Details of the event and participation were also uploaded on the portal, including the number of participants from the University community.

The Department of Dance and Music, Manipur University, expresses its deep appreciation to all participants, faculty, and administrative staff for their active involvement and support in making the event a resounding success. The University reaffirms its commitment to preserving and promoting India’s rich cultural and artistic heritage through such meaningful initiatives that celebrate the spirit of nationalism, unity, and pride.
