International students can seek admission in the various programmes offered by Manipur University. A visit to the website of the University would familiarize the prospective students with the various programmes offered by the University. In principle, Manipur University encourages and supports international students seeking admission in various programmes. This serves the purpose of enhancing knowledge capital through sharing with students coming from diverse cultures and environments.
International students can have a broad category such as - A foreign national who is a recipient of a fellowship of the Government of India and/or who is sponsored by his/her government or self-financing foreign national. Students who are willing to get admission in the various programmes shall get essential information on the concerned programmes such as eligibility requirements, programmes available and admission procedures from the prospectus or the website of the university.
Such students who are interested in pursuing a particular course are encouraged to contact the concerned Head of Department or the Director. This approach would greatly facilitate the admission process. Moreover, they are also suggested to visit the University website and learn about the Departments and Centres where the programmes are offered. Regarding the eligibility for foreign scholars, whenever required, the concerned authority in the university shall decide and that shall be final.
Students are advised to take a medical insurance policy to cover medical treatment expenses during their stay at the University. They are advised to submit a copy of their health insurance to their concerned Head of the Department/ Director of the Centre. Such medical insurance could serve as meeting the medical treatment expenses of medical services which are not available in the University Health Centre.
The prospective international students must look into the details provided in the Manipur University Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Ordinance ( Link provided here). A few of the significant areas pertaining to foreign scholars are highlighted here. Nevertheless, the prospective scholars must go through the Ph.D. The ordinance stated above for a thorough comprehension of Manipur University’s Ph.D. programme framework.
The University shall admit a student to the Ph.D. Programme through an Entrance Test to be known as Qualifying Entrance Test (QET). However, QET may be exempted for foreign nationals: A foreign national who is a recipient of a fellowship of the Government of India and/or who is sponsored by his/her government or self-financing foreign nationals are eligible to apply for Ph.D. programme.
A Provisional Ph.D. scholar shall be required to undertake the Ph.D. Course Work for a period of one Semester. The Ph.D. Course Work shall consist of 3 (three) papers each of 4 credits/100 marks including Research methodology, Advanced knowledge on the Subject, Literature review, Project/Term paper and Seminar, etc. Respective Departments shall determine the course contents of the papers.
Foreign scholars may opt to exempt themselves from attending the Ph.D. Course Work. In case they exercise the above option, they shall be required to present two open Seminars before the Board of Studies of the Department. A compliance certificate may be issued to them if they desired.
