A talk program on ' MANIPURI PONY'

Manipur University, 24/11/2022: Life Sciences ( Zoology and Botany), Manipur University organised a talk program on ' MANIPURI PONY'. The talk was delivered by Mr. Nyein Kyaw, Managing partener, NK legal Myanmar,Yangon & Vice-chairman, SME- Development Bank,Yangon.

Faculty members, Research scholars and MSc students attended the talk. Prof. R. Varatharajan, Dean, School of Life Sciences gave the presidential remarks. Prof.M. Damayenti Devi, HOD/ Botany and Prof. Th. Binoy Singh, HOD/ Zoology also attended.

Mr. Nyein Kyaw is the 5th descendant from maharaj Marjit Singh, who once ruled the kingdom of Manipur. One of Shrijut Marjit's sons, Shri Jogendrajit was captured and taken away by the Burmese during the 7 years devastation and Jogendrajit settled in Burma. So, Iningthou Marjit was the great- great grandfather of Mr. Nyein Kyaw.

Mr. Kyaw has come to Manipur in connection with the Sangai festival,2022 with his youngest daughter Miss Mya Thway Chil, a lawyer by profession in order to know more about Manipuri Pony and Arambai.

The talk and discussions emphasized on the need for more serious conservation steps for the MANIPUR PONY, a semi wild breed; need for teaching practically horse riding and Arambai use in Schools; need for intensive study on the physiological, genetic and ancestral aspects of this peculiar breed that has amazed many generations with their peculiar characters specially during war and in the Polo field.
