A Brief Introduction:


Dr Okram Mukherjee Singh obtained his B Sc degree in 1987 from St Edmunds College, Shillong and M Sc degree in 1989 in Chemistry from North Eastern Hill University, Shillong. After qualifying NET(UGC-CSIR) in the year 1989, he joined the group of Prof H Junjappa and Prof (Mrs) H Ila of Department of Chemistry, NEHU for carrying out research works as a JRF in a CSIR project and registered for Ph D In the year 1995 (5th September), he has joined the Department of Chemistry, Manipur University as an Assistant Professor and promoted to Reader in the year 2004. At present he is serving as an Associate professor.

The nature of job he has been carrying out in the department of chemistry is teaching organic chemistry to post-graduate and Ph D students and performing research works. His research areas are in the field of organic chemistry, particularly development of newer synthetic methods, medicinal and bio-organic chemistry.

Three students have been awarded for their Ph D under his guidance and at present four research scholars are working in his laboratory for their Ph D degrees.

He is a recipient of young scientist award of Manipur Science & Technology Council (worked for 2 months in IIT, Kanpur during June-July, 2000), Indian Academy of Science, Bangalore summer-visiting fellowship (worked for 2 months in University of Hyderabad during June-July, 1999) and BOYSCAST, DST fellowship (visited University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah, USA and worked for one year during 2004-05 in the group of Prof P J Stang(Editor of JACS) in the research area of self-assembly and supramolecules.
