A Brief Introduction
Professor Laitonjam Warjeet Singh obtained his B.Sc (Chemistry Honors) from Gauhati University in the year 1978 and M.Sc. specializing in Organic Chemistry from North Eastern Hill University, Shillong (1981). Prof. Singh got his Ph.D. degree under the supervision of Prof. H. Junjappa, NEHU on Synthetic Organic Chemistry in 1987. He got the JRF, CSIR during 1982-1984; SRF, CSIR during 1985-1987 and RA, CSIR during 1987-1988. Joined the Department of Chemistry, Manipur University as an Assistant Professor on 14 December 1988; promoted to Reader in the year 1998 and to Professor in the year 2006. At present he is serving Head of Department in the Department of Chemistry, Manipur University since 1st September 2010.

He is a Commonwealth Fellow of Association of Commonwealth Universities, London, UK from 1-10-1997 to 30-9-1998 and worked with Prof. E.J. Thomas (Editor of Tetrahedron, Tet. Lett.), University of Manchester, U.K. in the research area of total synthesis of natural product, Pamamycin-an antibiotic.

He visited the IICB, Kolkata from 14/12/2001 to 16/01/2002 as Visiting Scientist under the NEC Programme (UGC). He was nominated by the Royal Society, London as Visiting Scientist at the University of Manchester, UK from 31/01/2006 to 05/05/2006. Visited the Department of Chemistry, NEHU, SHillong as a UGC Visiting Fellow in 1999 and 2000.

His research areas are on Development of Newer Synthetic Methods both for Heterocyclic and Carbocyclic compounds; Synthesis of Natural Products; and Chemical Studies on Medicinal Plants. Under his guidance, ten research scholars have been awarded for their Ph.D. degrees and at present, six research scholars are working.
