Anthropology Department
The department of Anthropology was
established in Manipur University under the School of Sciences in 1984.
It was indeed a successful endeavor of the Anthropological Society of Manipur.
The department, since its inception,
has been imparting P G course
in two main specializations, Physical Anthropology and Social &
Cultural Anthropology, and PhD research in different aspects of Anthropology.
During the span of 25 years the department has gradually accumulated
essential equipments, ranging from calipers to body composition analyzer,
and PCR. It is now equipped with modern teaching paraphernalia like
Projectors (overhead, slide, epidiascope, LCD etc) digital movie and
still cameras, sound systems, computers and internet facility. It has
facilities of kinanthropology, molecular anthropology and visual
anthropological researches. The new building has adequate number
of classrooms with Godrej furniture for different specializations
viz. physical anthropology, social and cultural anthropology,
pre-historic archaeology, etc. There is provision for diploma
or short times.
Courses on forensic anthropology and museology, etc. which are
contemplating to introduce in the department in the nearest
possible future. Practical/Laboratories of both P.G. courses
and research purposes are now arranged in separate rooms.
